Former Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili may be appointed chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, according to Rustavi 2 TV Channel.
Margvelashvili received an offer to lead the party from party leader Mikheil Saakashvili. The UNM has already made a corresponding decision.
Margvelashvili was elected President of Georgia in 2013, he was nominated by the Georgian Dream party, but by 2018 he was out of the ruling party's control. Recently, the politician openly supported the opposition, Sputnik Georgia recalls.
At the same time, United National Movement head Nika Melia refuted reports of Margvelashvili's appointment as the party's chairman.
