Five new hydroelectric power stations and three wind stations are planned to be built in the Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti, Shida Kartli and Imereti regions of Georgia, according to the Georgian government.

The total installed capacity of energy projects, presented at today’s Government meeting, is over 250 megawatts of installed capacity, and will total $400 million in investments.

The Government Administration also said agreements with investor companies would ensure technical and financial feasibility studies as well as construction works for the infrastructure.

Development of the energy sector and ensuring energy independence is one of the important priorities of the Georgian government. The authorities have repeatedly stated the need to develop this sector against the backdrop of growing consumption.
