Today, the Georgian Parliament adopted in the third and final reading changes to the law "On Tourism". Medical insurance will become mandatory for foreign guests from the beginning of 2026.

Initially, the Parliament wanted to introduce the innovation on June 1, 2024, but then it was decided to shift the deadlines in order to prepare the industry and raise awareness among foreign tourists. Medical insurance will become obligatory for visitors to Georgia from January 1, 2026.

It was previously reported that tourists could apply for health insurance in advance in their home country. Currently, it can be issued voluntarily. The insurance may be needed in case a foreigner needs medical care in Georgia.
