Georgian Dream ruling party has won five election districts out of six in the municipal election run-off yesterday, Georgia’s Central Election Commission has announced its preliminary figures.
The ruling party candidates won in Kutaisi, Kazbegi, Khashuri, Borjomi and Martvili, while an independent candidate was able to defeat the Georgian Dream nominee in Ozurgeti with 50.11% of votes, Agenda.ge reported.
The Georgian Dream candidate in Kutaisi received 87.55% of votes and his opponent Grigol Vashadze from the United National Movement - 12.45% of votes. Vashadze did not participate in the run-off as the UNM boycotted the process. However, ballot papers had already been printed and names of the opposition candidates remained on the papers.
The Georgian Dream candidate in Kazbegi Aleksandre Zagashvili received 68,65% of votes and his opponent from the Democratic Movement-United Georgia Sandro Kamarauli - 31,35% of votes.
The Georgian Dream candidate in Borjomi Levan Lipartia received 55,22% of votes and his opponent from the Alliance of Patriots Zaza Chachanidze - 44,78% of votes.
The Georgian Dream candidate in Martvili Aleksandre Grigalava received 93,04% of votes and his opponent from the United National Movement Mamuka Danelia - 6,96% of votes.
The Georgian Dream candidate in Ozurgeti Beglar Sioridze received 49,89% of votes, while his independent opponent Konstantine Sharashenidze obtained 50,11% of votes.
The run-off was held as in the six election districts none of the candidates could receive more than 50% of mandatory votes in the October 21 municipal elections.
