Irakli Chikovani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, said the “absolute majority” of conditions outlined by the European Union for granting the country the membership candidate status would be implemented by December.
Chikovani, who is on a visit to Prague with a parliamentary delegation, made the remark in comments on meetings held by the officials in capitals of EU member states with the goal of providing partners with information on the implementation of the conditions.
“Immediately after the publication of the recommendations [by the European Commission], Georgian Dream said there would be an open process in which everyone can participate, and we stated that we would be very active in the process of implementing the recommendations. We have established a plan with specific dates and we will stick to these dates”, Chikovani said.
"We are not falling behind in this regard, and practically the absolute majority of the recommendations will be implemented by December. If any part is not fulfilled, it will be those on which we are waiting for conclusions by international organisations, or the ongoing important process with the election of the public defender [in Georgia]”, he said, adding the government had a “clear plan” with regards to the outlined priorities.
