Georgian Foreign Minister meets with UN Secretary General

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze met with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Geneva yesterday, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a message on its website.

At the meeting Guterres stressed the need to intensify the Geneva discussions on the South Caucasus and strengthen this negotiating format, the ministry said.

Guterres noted the importance for the Georgian government to approach settlement of the regional situation peacefully, and declared readiness to support this process further, the ministry added.

Janelidze also invited Guterres to visit Georgia, Interfax reported.

Georgian FM is in Geneva to attend the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council. His visit's agenda also includes meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Michael Møller.
