Georgian PM: fuel prices to be reduced until end of August

Fuel importer companies have promised the Georgian Government to decrease prices by 20-30 tetri by the end of August, with the latest move following earlier reductions in July and middle of the current month, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Monday at the Government meeting.

The PM said the Government needed to “intensify” work with fuel importers, citing public perception that the domestic fuel prices did not reflect dynamics of decreasing costs, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili said he had recommended the Competition Agency to launch a relevant inquiry and “verify the integrity” of fuel importers, as well as matters of observing competition and possible deviations and violations.

He added his Government actively monitored fuel prices in the country by looking into the issue together with the economic team, and would provide additional information to the public.
