Georgian police detain several individuals for extortion committed against foreign citizens

Georgian law enforcers have detained several individuals in Batumi and Khelvachauri of Adjara region on the fact of coercion and extortion, InterPressNews reported.

Investigation has established that the detainees forced coerced citizen of Turkey A.I. to withdraw GEL 2 500 from ATM and in addition, the two (one of them is the owner of a club and another is the club employee) coerced another citizen of Turkey to pay GEL 1000 for inexisting menu. 

Investigation is in progress under Article 150 Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia. 

Police have detained two other citizens of Georgia, who extorted 4 800 Turkish Lira from a citizen of Turkey. 

Investigation is in progress under Article 181, Part II of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The committed crime envisages imprisonment from 4 to 7 years.
