German government extends Saudi arms sale ban

The German government said it would extend a ban on exporting arms to Saudi Arabia for a further six months.

"The ban will be extended for a further six months to September 30. Over this period no new export applications will be approved," a by government spokesman Steffen Seibert's statement reads.

Earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that future decisions on whether to deliver arms to Saudi Arabia would depend on how the conflict develops in Yemen.

Germany announced the ban in October, amid the controversy surrounding the death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in a Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
