German government to hold emergency meeting after terrorist attack in Istanbul

This evening the German government will hold an emergency meeting, at which Chancellor Angela Merkel will inform ministers about the investigation into the terrorist attack in Istanbul.

According to preliminary information, eight German citizens died in the explosion, nine were injured. "I will inform the government, which will gather this evening anyway for a special meeting in connection with the beginning of the new year, I will tell them about the talks with the Turkish leadership and the progress of the investigation," RIA Novosti quotes Merkel as saying.

She reported that previously she received calls from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. "Both informed me about the investigation and expressed the heartfelt condolences of their government and the Turkish people," the Chancellor concluded.
