German grounds Tornado jets 'over loose screws'

The German military said it had grounded nearly half its fleet of Tornado reconnaissance jets, used in the fight against ISIS, because of a technical defect.

According to DPA, the problem is a loose screw on the monitor in the cockpit.

The six Tornados stationed at a NATO airbase in southern Turkey are among those that have been grounded over the latest defect, DPA said.

The army spokesman was quoted as saying that the problem had been discovered Wednesday and that it was not clear how long it would take to fix it.

The German Defence Ministry revealed in January that the jets couldn’t fly at night because pilots were being blinded by a cockpit light that was far too bright.
