Germany has temporarily stopped rail services with Austria. This decision was taken on the initiative of the federal government.
Local media reported that the southern border of Germany has also introduced a border control, cancelling free movement within the Schengen area.
Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said that as a result "of European inaction, Germany was at the limit of its abilities," Tass reports.
