Gigi Ugulava becomes a political prisoner

A former mayor of Tbilisi, Gigi Ugulava, whom Tbilisi City Court recently sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, became a political prisoner as a result of the actions of the ruling 'Georgian Dream' coalition, according to a member of the Georgian party 'Free Democrats', the lawyer Shalva Shavgulidze.

"The concept of a political prisoner is a public assessment. I think the foolish actions of 'Georgian Dream' are completely wrong from a political point of view, the actions through which they have politicized this legal matter, Gigi Ugulava has indeed become a political prisoner, and this is indicated by the attitude of society," Georgia Online quotes Shavgulidze as saying.
