Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has been elected the new chairman of the Georgian Dream party during the 4th party congress.
"Giorgi Kvirikashvili has been unanimously elected the chairman of the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party," the Deputy Prime Minister Kakha Kaladze said.
"The chairmanship of the ruling party is a great responsibility for me... I am ready to serve my country," the prime minister said, while thanking the audience, including Irakli Garibashvili and Bidzina Ivanishvili, who created the Georgian Dream coalition, Sputnik Georgia reports.
Earlier the Georgian Parliament adopted amendments to the law, according to which a Prime Minister can remain in his office and run in parliamentary elections.
The victory of the Georgian Dream coalition in the parliamentary elections in 2012 marked the end of the 9-year rule of the former President Mikheil Saakashvili and his the United National Movement party.
