The risk of nuclear conflict in the world today is the most serious in decades. This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres during his speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
"Nuclear-weapon countries must commit not to be the first to use them. These countries must assure non-nuclear states that they will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against them, and be transparent", the head of the international organization is quoted by TASS.
The Secretary General called for an end to the "nuclear weapons rattling" and noted that all countries should "reaffirm their commitment to a world free of nuclear weapons". According to him, efforts should not be spared when it comes to negotiations to reduce tensions and end the nuclear arms race forever.
