Habil Aliyev passes away

Habil Aliyev has passed today at the age of 89. He was a world-renowned kamancha player, Azerbaijani People's Artist, and a holder of the Orders Istiglal and Shohrat.

Habil Aliyev was connected to a respirator and on September 2nd he went into a coma. He suffered heart and lung failure.

Habil Aliyev was born on May 28th 1927 in the village of Uchgovdag located in the Agdash region of Azerbaijan. At the age of seven he began to study with the famous mugam teacher Ahmed Agdam. During the Great Patriotic War when his elder brother was mobilized he became the bread-earner of his family, combining study in musical college and playing kamancha at the Agdash Drama Theatre. In 1952 he entered the Asaf Zeynalli Baku musical school. After ten years Habil Aliyev performed at the Azerbaijani State Television and Radio for the first time. On his first foreign tour Habil Aliyev went to the UK. In subsequent years, he toured in Tunisia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Syria, the United States, Turkey, Germany, India, France, Iran, Pakistan, Japan, Greece, Italy, performing Azerbaijani mugham and folk songs on the kamancha,.

Habil Aliyev’s albums were released in the United States, France, Japan, Greece and Italy.
