A monument to Azerbaijani millionaire and philanthropist Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev will be erected in the center of Baku in accordance with the project of people's artist Khanlar Akhmedov's project.
Khanlar Ahmadov’s project was selected as the winning project according to the jury's decision, and was selected from among 26 projects submitted for the open contest for building a monument to Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and the Baku City Executive Power.
The monument to Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev will be erected near Baku’s Icherisheher metro station on Istiglaliyyat Street.
Hajji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev as born on January 25, 1823 in Baku in a shoemaker's family. The great philanthropist founded the first school for girls in the Muslim East in Baku, built a theater, a stock exchange, a railway, established a fire service, and built a water system. Taghiyev also financed the training of talented youth abroad, sponsored the work of artists.
