British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond stated in an interview on the BBC that only the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, could stop the war in Syria.
‘’There is only one person in the world who can put an end to the civil war in Syria, just with one phone call. And he is Mr. Putin,’’ RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
According to Hammond, the fate of Assad depends on whether Russia is prepared to use its influence to remove him from power.
