Heavy rain has hit Akhmeta and Lagodekhi municipalities in Georgia's Kakheti region.
About 1000 hectares of fruit trees and vineyards were damaged as the water level in River Alazani increased. The severe rain also damaged roads in Akhmeta municipality.
Last night, Gurjaani-Lagodekhi road was closed for several hours because of the natural disaster.
It is not raining in the region at the moment. The water level in the river decreased. Rescuers are working in the flooded areas.
More than 150 households have already been provided with rescuers’ assistance. The loss has not been counted yet. Population says the government should provide them with financial assistance as they had not their land plots and harvest insured.
According to Gurjaani Mayor Archil Khandamashvili, a protective construction needs to be built along the river, Agenda.ge reported.
The Emergency Management Center of Georgia received about 100 calls from Kakheti last night.
