Hundreds of hooligans banned from following England abroad now free to travel to World Cup

Around 1,200 hooligans banned from following England abroad are now free to travel to the World Cup in Russia next year, Mirror reports.

Courts can order troublemakers to hand over their passports for the duration of foreign tournaments. But many bans have expired.

Records obtained by the Mirror show 3,200 fans with football-related convictions were barred from travel to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Those with active travel bans now stands at around 2,000, the Home Office confirmed on Thursday, leaving hundreds of convicted football offenders free to go to Russia next summer.
