Hungary is ready to pay for Russian gas in rubles and this will not violate sanctions of the European Union, Foreign Minister of the country Peter Szijjarto told reporters on Monday.
"As far as payment in rubles is concerned, we have the solution making possible not to violate any sanctions but ensuring gas supplies to Hungary at the same time," the Minister said.
The issue has been discussed recently during technical talks between CEEnergy and Gazprom Export, Szijjarto said. The agreement signed by them earlier accommodates a change of the payment currency for Russian gas supplies. Payments in euro will come to the Hungarian company’s account with Gazprombank and converted into rubles, the Minister added.
