At today's meeting in Zurich Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) decided to move the world championship from Russia to another country. This is stated in a message posted on the IIHF's official website.
The tournament was to be held in St. Petersburg from May 5 to May 21, 2023. The new World Championship host nation will be confirmed at the 2022 IIHF Annual Congress in Tampere, Finland, which will take place on the last week of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship.
The IIHF explained that the decision to move the 2023 World Cup from Russia was made for the safety of all hockey players, fans, officials and the media.
