Russia and Turkey are interested in stability in the Caucasus, the President of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs, Igor Ivanov, told Vestnik Kavkaza on the sidelines of the international conference titled 'Russia and Turkey: strengthening of multi-faceted partnership'.
"Firstly, we are the members of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. And I think that it is in the interests of both Russia and Turkey to have a stable Caucasus. And there must be an interaction between such major players as Russia and Turkey to achieve stability in the Caucasus with all the difficulties that exist in this region, of both a historical and a more recent nature," he stressed.
"We may have different views on certain issues in the region, but it should not be an obstacle to dialogue and our cooperation. It is very important that we do not run away from acute problems, we discuss these issues, and this was proven by this conference. We will have a special session on regional issues, including the Caucasus, Central Asia and the Middle East, where we are confronted with various problems and sensitive issues," the President of the Russian Council on Foreign Affairs added.
"So we can interact more effectively, we should understand that we must act not against each other in these regions, but together. It is in our common interest. I think it is important that we have such an understanding at the highest political level and during this conference," Igor Ivanov concluded.
