Igor Korotchenko: criminal case should be instituted against those who installed plaque commemorating Garegin Nzhdeh in Armavir

Russia should be cleared of the objects glorifying any Nazi accomplices, including Garegin Nzhdeh, editor-in-chief of 'National Defense' magazine Igor Korotchenko told Vestnik Kavkaza, commenting on the destruction of the shameful memorial plaque commemorating Nazi collaborator Garegin Nzhdeh by deputy of the Armavir City Council Alexey Vinogradov.

“Of course, what happened was an action with a capital A. Heroization of fascist criminals is absolutely unacceptable. Garegin Nzhdeh is like Armenia's general Vlasov, and after all General Vlasov is considered a national traitor, his name is sealed by shame. If Vlasov was preparing an army of traitors, then Nzhdeh was preparing saboteurs to be taken to the rear of the Red Army for sabotage, including against Soviet civilians, railway transport and strategic infrastructure," he recalled.

"Under international law, Nzhdeh and his activities are classified as international terrorism - in addition to him being a Nazi collaborator," the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine noted.

“The fact that the Armavir authorities turned a blind eye to this problem is surprising. We rightly condemn the manifestation of Nazism in the Baltic countries, we oppose the heroization of Nazi collaborators there, but when it happens in Russia, these facts are hushed up for some reason, which is absolutely unacceptable. This plaque should have been dismantled," Igor Korotchenko stressed.

“A criminal case under the article 'Propaganda of Fascism, Hitler Symbols' must be instituted against those who installed it. On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, the territory of Russia should be completely cleared of the commemorative signs, which in one way or another are connected with the heroization of the Third Reich and people engaged in criminal activities on behalf of the Third Reich," he urged.

In this regard, a reaction from the authorities, the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee is urgently needed now. "Why should we be silent? The territory of Russia and its reputation is our problem, it's not the Armenian problem. We need prosecution of people who glorify fascist criminals," the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine said .

"Fascist criminals do not have a nationality. These are people whose nationality is not of interest to anyone, they should not be glorified in Russia. Those who are involved in this should be prosecuted under Russian law. There is a Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, specific articles - we need to apply them,” Igor Korotchenko concluded.
