Ilham Aliyev: Armenia deals big blow to process of normalizing ties with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made a speech today at the Summit of the Member Countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand.

According to the Vestnik Kavkaza correspondent, the President of Azerbaijan stressed that the republic is making a significant contribution to the launch of regional communication projects, such as "West-East" and "North-South".

He added that the number of international airports will increase from today's seven to nine by the end of 2024.

The settlement of the Karabakh conflict at the end of 2020 created new opportunities for implementation of transport and communication projects in the region.

Transit through the territory of Azerbaijan increased by almost 50% in the first seven months of 2022.

Ilham Aliyev stressed that the work on a draft peace agreement with Armenia must be done without preconditions and artificial delays.

He recalled that three days ago Armenia commited a large-scale military provocation on the border that derailed efforts to negotiate a peace treaty. The Azerbaijani leader stressed that the Armenian provocation is a big blow to the process of normalizing the relations between the two countries.
