Ilham Aliyev: Armenia's official statement unacceptable and hinder negotiations

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar.

Toivo Klaar stressed that the European Union is interested to positively contribute to the resolution of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Azerbaijani presidential press service reported.

Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction and support on the public statements made by the EU Commission and some European Commissioners demanding to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of international law, to change status quo in the conflict and to continue negotiations based on existing format.

The head of state also said that conflict should be resolved only in accordance with international law and within the framework of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, and the format of the negotiation process cannot be changed.

The President stressed that Azerbaijan is the most interested party in the earliest negotiated settlement of the conflict, and liberating occupied territories is always an important component of the negotiation process. He noted that Armenia's contradictory official statements are unacceptable and hinder the negotiation process. In this regard, the head of state emphasized the importance of the international community taking it into account and conveying targeted statements to Armenia.

In addition, a wide exchange of views on the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in various fields and Azerbaijan's participation in the Eastern Partnership program was held at the meeting.
