Armenia, which destroyed sacred mosques, cannot be a friend of Muslim countries, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said at the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the issue of Jerusalem in Istanbul.
Azerbaijan's President expressed gratitude to the OIC member states and Muslim communities around the world for their fair support to Azerbaijan on resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"Armenia has been holding under occupation 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts for more than 20 years," he recalled. "Nagorno-Karabakh is an ancient and historical land of Azerbaijan," Ilham Aliyev stressed.
"As a result of Armenia's aggression, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons. The occupied territories were entirely subjected to ethnic cleansing and plundering. Armenia destroyed all cultural monuments, including mosques and Islamic monuments on the occupied Azerbaijani territories," he stressed.
President Aliyev said that Armenia nevertheless wants to establish friendly relations with different Muslim countries. "This is the greatest hypocrisy,” he stressed
He recalled that Armenia still ignores the UN Security Council four resolutions demanding immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijani lands.
"OIC and other international organizations have passed similar resolutions. Azerbaijan will never reconcile with the Armenian occupation, the conflict should be resolved only within Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized borders and territorial integrity," President Aliyev concluded.
