The number of countries importing Azerbaijani gas will increase, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said as he addressed the Baku Energy Week.
According to the president, Azerbaijan is increasing its gas exports, it will most probably exceed 24 billion cubic meters.
“We have eight countries, which are recipients of Azerbaijani gas. Azerbaijan has proven to be a reliable partner in supplying gas to many countries. The geography of our supply definitely will grow. We are now in the active phase of negotiations with several more countries, which need Azerbaijani gas in order to provide the energy security,” Ilham Aliyev said.
The Azerbaijani leader stressed that the European Commission names Azerbaijan as a Pan-European gas supplier, because 6 out of 8 countries, which are recipients of its natural gas are European countries.
The head of state said that all the contracts, which have been signed by the country during the last 30 years, have been implemented completely. This is a result why the republic is now experiencing another rapid development in renewables.
He stressed that Shahdeniz has put an end to the gas shortage in Azerbaijan.
According to Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan plans to have 2 gigawatts of renewables by the end of 2027.
He noted that they have inaugurated hydropower stations with a total capacity of 270 megawatts in the Karabakh and East Zangezur areas, this figure will reach 500 megawatts within 3-5 years.
So, one gigawatt of renewables will save Azerbaijan roughly 500 million cubic meters of natural gas.
