Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan wins war and wants peace

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El País that there is no need to return to any discussions on the status of Karabakh.

"Azerbaijan's position is open and clear. We want peace. We do not want war. We won the war, we are the winners. And this reality must be taken into account. And the Karabakh conflict is settled - no need to return to any discussions about the status of Karabakh or something like that," the Azerbaijani leader stressed.

When asked about Azerbaijan's expectations from Armenia, Ilham Aliyev answered that Armenia should refrain from any hostile actions and territorial claims, while working on a peace agreement and adhering to the normal behaviour of the 21st century.

"Azerbaijan and Armenia are neighbouring countries, and they must learn to live side by side, as well as gradually prepare the ground for the normalization of relations, including contacts between people. Azerbaijan is ready. However, it seems that the internal situation in Armenia and its disappointment after losing the war have caused some psychological trauma in society due to high expectations and unrealistic assessment of military-political forces," the Azerbaijani leader added.
