Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughter Leyla Aliyeva visited the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honor today, on Heydar Aliyev Memorial Day.
Ilham Aliyev laid a wreath at Heydar Aliyev's grave. The Azerbaijani national anthem was performed.
The President, First Lady, and their daughter then honored the memory of Zarifa Aliyeva, Heydar Aliyev's wife, a distinguished ophthalmologist and academician, by laying flowers at her gravesite.
Ilham Aliyev, Mehriban Aliyeva, and Leyla Aliyeva also paid their respects to the memory of renowned statesman Aziz Aliyev and Professor Tamerlan Aliyev, and laid flowers at their graves.
The commemorations take place on Heydar Aliyev Memorial Day, marking 22 years since the passing of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern independent Azerbaijan and the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people.
