President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met in Ankara.
The meeting between the two leaders lasted more than four hours.
The parties noted that with the signing and the ratification of the Shusha Declaration in the parliaments of both countries, the Azerbaijani-Turkish fraternal and friendly relations have been further developed on the basis of alliance.
The presidents exchanged views on the prospects of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations normalization between in the post-conflict period and noted the importance of opening the Zangezur corridor, as well as laying the Kars-Nakhchivan railway line.
During the meeting, the importance of Armenia’s implementation of all the provisions of the trilateral Statement was emphasized. There was also a discussion on contacts between the delegations of Turkey and Armenia.
The parties touched upon the cooperation between Baku and Ankara in the energy sector. In this context, the successful functioning of the Southern Gas Corridor was noted, and the possibilities of increasing gas supplies through this corridor to Turkey and further transit through this country to Europe were discussed. The leaders discussed the issue of laying the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. Investments are envisaged in the Azerbaijani budget.
Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan exchanged views on the further expansion of trade and economic ties between the two countries.
The successful continuation of cooperation in the military, military-technical spheres, including the field of military training and education, was noted, and other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
In addition to this, an exchange of views on the events in Ukraine was held, the efforts of Turkey and Azerbaijan were highly appreciated, as well as Erdoğan’s personal efforts to normalize the situation as soon as possible.
In conclusion, the sides expressed satisfaction with the development of Azerbaijan-Turkey allied relations.
Ilham Aliyev invited his Turkish counterpart to visit Azerbaijan.
