Ilham Aliyev meets with Joe Biden

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has met with the Vice President of the United States Joe Biden.

Joe Biden noted that meetings with Ilham Aliyev contribute to expanding Azerbaijani-US cooperation and elevating relations to a new level. He stressed that Washington resolutely supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The US Vice President said there are good opportunities for expanding bilateral ties in all areas, including the economy. 

He noted that Washington and Baku organized good cooperation and hailed Azerbaijan's active participation in the international anti-terror coalition in Afghanistan. 

He also noted the importance of the steps taken to define opportunities for defense cooperation. In addition, he said the US fully supports Azerbaijan's efforts to implement the Southern Gas Corridor project.

President Ilham Aliyev said reforms were being conducted in all areas in Azerbaijan, noting that freedom of thought, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly and freedom of the Internet are provided in the country. The head of state spoke about Azerbaijan's position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Ilham Aliyev thanked the US for its firm position on the settlement of the dispute, underlining the significance of solving the problem.

According to Ilham Aliyev, the US plays a vital role in finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.

The sides also expressed mutual interest in maintaining strong and long-term cooperation between the two countries.

The US Secretary of State John Kerry was present at the meeting, AzerTAc reports.
