Today's cabinet meeting was chaired by President Ilham Aliyev. He summarized the results of the government social and economic development program in the first nine months of 2015, and discussed the further implementation of the planned tasks.
At the very beginning of the meeting, the President pointed out the main result of the social and economic policy. Thus, according to him, despite the difficult economic situation in the world economy, the sharp fall in oil prices and political provocations against the country, the Azerbaijani economy is continuing to develop.
According to statistics, economic growth in the period from January to September is 3.7%, industrial production increased by 2.1%, agriculture by 6.7%, and the oil industry grew by more than 10%, despite the decline in prices.
At the same time, there was no high inflation in the country. It was only 3.7% in this period. This fact hasn't affected the population, as personal incomes rose by 5.8%.
The attraction of investments to the country's economy worth more than $16 billion indicates the success of the economic policy.
Another result of the economic policy was 40th place in the ranking of global competitiveness of the Davos Economic Forum. This result puts Azerbaijan in first place in respect of competitiveness among the countries of the former Soviet Union. At the same time, Ilham Aliyev noted the importance of strengthening financial discipline in the country in order to avoid unnecessary costs. Thus, the government needs to review the structure of budgetary spending, trying not to allocate funds to projects that are not a priority now.
Speaking about the results in the social sphere, Ilham Aliyev said that the government managed to ensure transparency in issuing targeted social assistance, with 114,000 families now receiving it. In addition, the President noted that 26 kindergartens, 34 schools and 11 hospitals and clinics were repaired and reconstructed in the country during the first nine months of the year.
The President pointed out that the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway increases the potential of Azerbaijan as a transit country for goods from China to the countries of the former Soviet Union.
The head of state added that the authorities are continuing to work on the creation of the Southern Gas Corridor, and have taken serious steps in order to develop the field Shah Deniz-2 and implement the TANAP project.
In his speech Ilham Aliyev paid special attention to the combat condition of the Azerbaijani army. He stressed that the military and defense sector is continuing to be a priority for public funding. So, it is planned next year to take a series of measures to strengthen the material-technical base of the army. The President stressed that the armed forces of Azerbaijan have proved their superiority in practice, as last month an enemy sabotage group was successfully destroyed on the contact line. In addition, Armenia has suffered heavy losses.
