Russia and Azerbaijan reached the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with a variety of positive results, showing the scale of modern Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, the representative of the executive body of the Republic of Dagestan, Ilyas Umakhanov said, speaking with the correspondent of Vestnik Kavkaza,
"25 years of diplomatic relations is a very important milestone in the traditionally friendly and good-neighborly relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, which was noted in President Vladimir Putin's statement on this occasion. We reached this milestone with remarkable results that reflect the diversity and scope of our cooperation in very different directions," the senator said, noting that this concerns economics, culture, the international cooperation and the parliamentary component.
Ilyas Umakhanov drew attention to the fact that the 25th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was marked with a small gap from this date. "This celebration has become a very beautiful illustration of our common achievements. I am pleased to talk about this also because I represent Dagestan, and the peoples of Dagestan and Azerbaijan are historically united by friendly, I would say, brotherly ties," the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council said.
The senator stressed that this is largely ensured and determined by the trusting relations established between President Ilham Aliyev and President Vladimir Putin. "Our leaders give us example, and therefore we try to make maximum use of parliamentary diplomacy to promote cooperation, monitor the existing problems and try to give them parliamentary acceleration," Ilyas Umakhanov said.
"The meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission will be held in Azerbaijan in the near future. We will discuss there a wide range of issues related to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations," he concluded.
