Iran has the technical capabilities to produce a nuclear bomb, but there is no decision by the republic's authorities on this issue, Kamal Kharrazi, head of the country's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations said.
"It's no secret that we have the technical capabilities to produce a nuclear bomb, but there is no decision by the country's leadership on this matter", TASS quoted Kharrazi.
He stressed that within a few days Iran had been able to increase the level of uranium enrichment from 20% to 60%, and "can easily increase this level to 90%".
According to Kharrazi, the lack of guarantees from Washington regarding the preservation of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program "is a trap for any possible agreements between the parties". The head of the strategic center also added, if the International Atomic Energy Agency were independent and fair, "then it would be easier to resolve differences between the negotiators".
In conclusion, the Iranian representative added that if Iran is attacked by a neighboring state, "Tehran will fight back, as well as will attack with a direct strike against Israel".
