Iran's Guardian Council has approved six candidates to run for president in snap elections to be held later this month, Iran's State TV reported.
- Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf,
- Saeed Jalili, who ran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's office for four years,
- lawmaker Masoud Pezeshkian,
- Tehran mayor Alireza Zakani,
- former interior and justice minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi,
- Vice President Ghazizadeh Hashemi.
"With the announcement of the final list of candidates, their electoral activities start officially," the reported reads.
The election is due to take place on June 28 after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
