Iran defies US sanctions, media reports

A number of countries, including China, continue to receive oil from Iranian tankers, despite possible US sanctions, the New York Times reports with a reference to the ship-tracking services and satellite images.

The newspaper has tracked the movement of more than 70 Iranian tankers since May 2, when the US sanctions entered into force, and the State Department said that any purchases of Iranian oil, starting from this date, will be punished by sanctions. It turned out that 12 of these tankers transported and delivered oil to the countries of Asia and the Mediterranean: 6 of them unloaded cargo in the ports of China, the rest transported oil through the Suez Canal, possibly to Syria or Turkey.
