As many as 25 people have been killed as a result of the flooding in Iran, according to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
Head of the Relief and Rescue Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society Morteza Salimi told ISNA yesterday that flooding killed 23 people. Today he reported already 25 victims.
On Tuesday, the authorities sent out emergency warnings to the public on mobile phones as state television aired safety tips, including on how to leave cars stuck in floods.
Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a message of condolence and urged officials to speed up relief efforts and compensation for victims of the floods, which the authorities described as unprecedented.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, in turn, said that authorities need to invest all in their power in repairing the damage. "All our efforts at this juncture should be directed at restoring the situation to normal in the afflicted provinces," PressTV cited him as saying.
