Iran intends to connect Astara with Azerbaijani railway network

According to the Governor of the province of Gilan, Mohammed Ali Najaf, Tehran continues its efforts to connect the Iranian city of Astara with the railway network in Azerbaijan.

According to him, the policy of the Iranian government is aimed at comprehensive development of the country in view of the potential of different regions. Speaking about the project of the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, which is being implemented by the order of the President of Iran, the Governor pointed out that Azerbaijan has agreed to extend its railroad to 8 km. This will allow it to connect its railway network with the Iranian city of Astara. The improvement of customs, the development of a sea port, as well as the creation of a special economic zone is continuing in Astara.

In addition, Najaf said that in the coming days Azerbaijan is due to be visited by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Iran, who heads the Iranian part of the Iranian-Azerbaijani commission of trade and economic cooperation, for a serious discussion of the project of connecting the Azerbaijani railways with Astara, Iran.ru reports.
