Iran's Arak inaugurates biggest solar power station

Iran inaugurated its largest solar power station in the Central city of Arak on Sunday, the Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said.

A sum of four solar energy units with a capacity of 250 kilowatts each are utilized in Arak Solar Energy Project.

The solar energy power station will save two tons of environmental pollutants in the province.

Chitchian noted that among renewable energy sources, Iran has a high solar energy potential. The widespread deployment of solar energy is promising due to the recent advancements in solar energy technologies. There are small capacity solar energy plants in Shiraz, Semnan, Taleghan, Yazd, Tehran, and Khorasan provinces.

He stressed that under the current energy policies, the combined solar, wind and geothermal power plants are economically viable, Farsnews reports.
