Iran's 'The Salesman' wins Oscar

The 89th Annual Academy Awards were held today at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Iran's The Salesman won the award for the best foreign-language film after the nomination stirred controversy after President Trump's executive order ordered a travel ban for seven countries in the Middle East, including the Islamic Republic.

In protest of the controversial travel ban, Anousheh Ansari, the first Iranian woman in space, took the stage and received the award for Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi, who protested the award show.

The nominees in the category also included A Man Called Ove (Sweden), Land Of Mine (Denmark), Tanna (Australia) and Toni Erdmann (Germany).

La La Land earned 14 nominations, equaling the record held by Titanic and All About Eve as having the most Oscar nominations of all time. It bagged the Oscar in 6 of these categories.

At 32 years old, Damien Chazelle becomes youngest person in history to win best director at the Oscars for his musical La La Land.

Emma Stone has won her first Academy Award for her role as the struggling actress/playwright Mia Dolan in Chazelle's movie musical La La Land.

Casey Affleck has won the Oscar for best actor for his role as a grief-stricken janitor in Manchester by the Sea.

Moonlight won the best picture Oscar after La La Land was incorrectly named.
