Iran warns of tough response to shelling of its territory

The Iranian authorities have reported the shelling of its territory from the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

"Three mortar shells fired during clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh hit a village in Iran's northwestern province of East Azarbaijan on the border with Nagorno-Karabakh. Iranian border guards warned Azerbaijan and Armenia about aggression against Iranian territory. Both sides promised not to repeat such a mistake," the governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan said, Pravda.ru reports with reference to the Iranian news agency Farsnews.com.

Iranian officials have warned of the possibility of a strong reaction in the case of a recurrence of such incidents, TASS reports.

As Vestnik Kavkaza reported, the Armenian armed forces have fired at the territory of Iran, the deputy governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, Seyed Shaberstari-Khiyabani, said. According to him, during the massive bombardment of Azerbaijani territories, three shells fell on Iranian territory and exploded in the town of Khudaferin.

Recall, on the night of April 2 all frontier positions of Azerbaijan were exposed to heavy fire from large-caliber weapons, mortars, grenade launchers and guns. In addition, Azerbaijani settlements near the front line, densely populated by civilians, were shelled.
