A siren sounded across Israel for two minutes on Tuesday morning at 10 A.M. to mark the country's Holocaust Remembrance Day. From highways to schools, the whole country ground to a standstill to remember the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
Following the siren, a ceremony began at the Yad Vashem Museum in Jerusalem with the participation of President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and Supreme Court President Esther Hayut, who placed wreaths in the Hall of Remembrance.
An hour later, Israeli leaders gathered in the Knesset for the ceremony 'Every Person Has a Name,' in which names of Holocaust victims are read.
Memorial candles will be lit at the Warsaw Ghetto square at the entrance to Yad Vashem throughout the day, and visitors will be able to light personal memorial candles.
The "Book of Names" installation was recently inaugurated at the museum, commemorating the 4.8 mln Holocaust victims whose names Yad Vashem has collected since its foundation.
A youth movement event will be conducted at Yad Vashem at 5:30 P.M., with hundreds of youth in attendance. Kibbutz Lohamei Hageta'ot, the Ghetto Fighters' Kibbutz founded by Holocaust survivors, will host the Remembrance Day concluding ceremony at 8 P.M. As they do every year, Holocaust survivors will light six beacons in memorial of 6 mln Jews who died in the Holocaust.
