Kazakhstan confirms detention of member of Kyrgyzstan's parliament

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry confirmed the detention of the member of Kyrgyzstan's parliament Damirbek Asylbek uulu in Kazakhstan, spokesperson of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Anuar Zhainakov said, AKIpress reports. 

He said the Mininistry's consular service notified officially the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Astana on the detention of Kyrgyz citizens on 16 February. 

"On 17 February, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry sent a response note to the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry about the detention of MP Damirbek Asylbek uulu. Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan are in constant contact with the Kyrgyz Embassy and continue to assist them in keeping in touch with the law enforcement bodies of Kazakhstan,"  told Kazinform state news agency reported Zhainakov as saying. 

Earlier, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said 4 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were detained in Kazakhstan. 

"Regarding the detention of MP Damirbek Asylbek uulu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reports that it received information from the Kazakh side that on February 15 four citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were detained in the territory of Kazakhstan. Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic conducts relevant work with the competent authorities of Kazakhstan regarding the detainees and circumstances of detention," the Ministry said on February 17.

The names of the detainees, except for Damirbek Asylbek uulu, are not voiced.
