Gasification of the northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan with Russian gas, if it is finally implemented, will be beneficial to all parties, Astana says.

Currently, the supply of Russian gas to Kazakhstan is being discussed by Moscow and Astana. If the relevant decision is made, it will benefit both parties, the Kazakh Energy Ministry says.

Last month, the leadership of Kazakhstan signed a protocol with Russia's Gazprom on cooperation for the upcoming years.

The Ministry of Energy clarified that, among other things, the possible gasification of the northern and eastern regions of Kazakhstan is being discussed.

According to the Kazakh ministry, the prices offered by Russia do not particularly differ from the EAEU countries’ prices, but due to the transportation costs, they are more affordable.

"Supplies of Russian gas to Kazakhstan will be carried out on mutually beneficial terms and based on the existing friendly relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation,”

— Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan underscores.

Today, the head of the department, Almasadam Satkaliyev, announced that QazaqGaz and Gazprom have agreed on a route through which gasification of the northern and eastern regions of the country can be implemented.

According to the minister, a pipeline could be extended to China, but at the moment, only Kazakhstan’s needs are being discussed.
