Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei has called for better ties with the world - though not with the United States, according to his official website.
Khamenei spoke of the "necessity of developing diplomacy and relations with foreign countries" during a meeting with Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and his cabinet members on July 15.
"Except for a few cases - such as the United States - Iran's relations with other countries, including with the West and the East, must expand and further develop," AFP cited Khamenei as saying.
However, he added that Iran’s economy must not be tied down to the European side measures.
US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on Iran.
