Kiev court arrests Russian Chief of General Staff in absentia

The Shevchenko district court of Kiev ruled to arrest in absentia the Russian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff, Army General Valery Gerasimov, the military prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios reported.

Earlier today it became known about the announcement that Valery Gerasimov and 10 other Russian soldiers became wanted in Ukraine. All of them are involved in cases of battles in the area of Ilovaysk in the Donetsk region, which ended in heavy defeat for Ukrainian troops. According to the Security Service of Ukraine, these persons "organized, prepared and unleashed an armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine." Evidence has yet to be presented.

The Russian side has repeatedly stated that it is not involved in the conflict in Donbas.
