Konstantin Kosachev: Putin-Aliyev meeting helps Karabakh settlement

The talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, which were held on July 21 in Sochi, were constructive and helped in the promotion of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, the chairman of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs committee Konstantin Kosachev said, answering a question from Vestnik Kavkaza.

He specified that he did not attend the meeting in person, so he can only report the information that he received indirectly.

"In my opinion, these negotiations were constructive and allowed at least a little, but to advance in the given direction. That's all I can say right now," the senator said.

The Chairman of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs committee also recalled that Russia is building relations with Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other neighbors in the regime of good-neighborliness and sincere desire to help them in solving problems.

"In particular, I mean the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where Russia acts as an absolutely honest broker, a country that does not have its own goals and interests here, its only interest is to facilitate the rapprochement of the parties and find a final sustainable solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," Konstantin Kosachev emphasized.
