Kosachev: US leaves no chance for constructive cooperation with Russia

The adoption of new sanctions against Russia 'buries' the prospects of constructive Russia-US cooperation, Konstantin Kosachev, chair of Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, said Wednesday, Sputnik reports.

US President Donald Trump signed earlier on Wednesday into law a bill that stipulates tougher sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea.

"The United States leaves no chance for constructive cooperation with Russia — the most important partner in solving the central problems of modern world development. This cooperation will inevitably continue to be selective for years," Kosachev wrote in his Facebook blog.

According to Kosachev, the United States demonstrated the loss of an adequate perception of the realities of the modern day and, consequently, "lost any rights in claims to an 'exclusive' role in global leadership."

The Russian lawmaker added that, in light of new sanctions, the prospects of further settlement of the Iranian and North Korean problems "look very grim."
