Kosachev says current EU is caravan moving with speed of slowest camel

By speaking in favor of extending anti-Russian sanctions at the EU summit, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel demonstrated the loss of leading positions in the European Union, the chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee, Kosntantin Kosachev, wrote on his Facebook page.

"These two countries have lost real leadership in EU which they have enjoyed over the last decades. They are not leading now but are led," he added.

According to Kosachev, the EU in its current condition is a caravan moving with the speed of the slowest camel in the wrong direction.

Kosachev noted that nonconformity in EU "persists but is countered." So, no member country is likely to use its veto right against extending sanctions against Russia, the lawmaker said.

"Corporate solidarity will most likely gain the upper hand (or will be imposed). ‘We are against sanctions but we don’t want to violate the Union’s rules,’ that’s how it will be like,"TASS cited him as saying.
